Let it Snow!

Before going to bed last night, a lot of the white stuff was falling from the sky.  By this morning, the view from the front was like this...

And from the back, like this...

The Munchkin's bedroom window up on the top floor of the HenHouse was a proper snow scene, just like the displays in shops at Christmas where they spray on fake white sticky stuff to make it look as if snow has banked up against the window!

The Munchkin was, of course, beyond excitement, even more so when the call came to say that school would be shut for the day. We are within 6 miles of central London but no trains and no buses meant Mr HenHouse was also marooned at home all day although the wonders of modern technology meant he was able to tap in "virtually" to the office. It also meant, understandably, no laptop for me!

The front path was a carpet of white...

Perhaps not a day to sit on the patio!

Jacky-Ginger decided there was no way he was getting his paws cold and frosty so when Mr HenHouse turned his back, he concentrated on his blogging.

We decided to venture out to the Post Office and for some essential supplies (ie. creme eggs). The Post Office was shut (very sorry to the lady in America waiting for her covered notebook). I took our first ever photo of the HenHouse in the snow, the first in the three and half years that we've lived here because we've simply never had much snow until now.

It was a snowy scene looking up the surrounding streets to the church at the top of the hill.

When we got back, the Munchkin couldn't wait to dive on all that virgin snow in the back garden.

Everywhere was brightly illuminated by the blanket of white.  The HenHouse has never looked better.

The boys set about making a snowman.

The Munchkin did not come off well in the snowball fight!

But he had a marvellous time!

It has snowed steadily all day long. I think there's a good chance Frosty shall still be there tomorrow...

We've already had the call to say that school shall be shut tomorrow, so someone went to bed a very happy chappy.

  3. Lovely to have at least one little boy in the Hen house, to encourage everyone else to really enjoy that beautiful snow scene.

We have not had a really dramatic snow in New York for several years. It is best when such snow arrives here on Saturday night, so many people can have the luxury of playing all Sunday.

Usually, our snow plows, and side walk shoveling teams get out early, and reduce the beauty to less glam slush far too quickly.

Thank you for the magic! xo

  10. The snow was a wonderful novelty wasn't it? I love the snowy pictures. Your house is beautiful inside and out. Talking of inside - I love the picture of Jacky-Ginge sitting on the lap top. Well it is a 'lap' top isn't it? The pictures of the little munchkin convey that he had a wonderful time out in the snow!

  12. I was marooned at home too, as was Tim. I'm working from home again today I think. Looks like an ice rink out there.

We don't get many foxes here, but in Leatherhead we did. In fact, one day a fox was sat on top of the Eglu. You can have 2 chickens in the run happily (foxes can't get into that), but if you let them out you'd probably have to supervise.

  13. Oh, we used to get 2 eggs a day but one of our hens has a new set of feathers so that has zapped her energy. Now we get one a day.

  32. Just what memories are made of. We usually get a snow day like this every year or so but for kids in London this must have been a dream come true! Our best friends live in Kent and it's the first time their little ones have been able to make a proper snowman.

We have abour 2 inches but now melting fast, but more fprecast I think so perhaps we'll get to make one too.

So happy for you, what a treat!
Stephx (who is in awe of your beautiful house, and especially the painted gate - how pretty!)
