East, West, Home's Best

I sat at my table this morning, wondering what to make today, feeling decidedly lethargic. I got my notebook out to look at one of my many lists (I really do like lists) to save my brain the effort of remembering; lists of things I've already made to take to the Fair, things still possibly to make, supplies still to buy. What catches my eye? Oooh, cushions, yes, I love cushions, I want to make cushions today!

A couple of years ago now, I made a lot of cushions for the cottage and I enjoyed making this "Love" one. I think I will make some more "Love" cushions soon, but for some reason, today, it was "Home" that sprung to mind.

I love my home, I really do. There's nothing as comforting, as cosy, as heart warming, as reassuring or as personal as your home, I find. And today was the sort of day where I wanted and indeed needed to revel in "homeyness" (yes, I know that's not a real word but I do like it).

Come on, Hen, find that lovely wool fabric you bought in the Winter then; that divine bobble trim you bought at the CL Fair; spend ages cutting out letter shapes and fiddle with combining lots of pretty fabrics. The result? (Please excuse the less-than-perfect photos taken in today's less-than-perfect light.)

I think I like those; yes, they're rather homey, quite cosy and jolly, well, jolly! And, they are being taken to the fair. Yes, they are!

Did you spot the flowers in the background? I picked these from our front garden amidst the gloom of yesterday. The red roses smell divine and I've been enjoying their fragrance as I've sat at my worktable. I've also been enjoying that rather cute kitty card, from my sister to update me on what's going on "up North" and you may have spotted a "Thank You" card, that being from one of my lovely customers. How privileged am I, not only to find people want to buy some of my handmade thingies but that they even thank me for them, too, with these lovely cards and even gifts!

Just so you know, I do love all the cards and all the comments left here that have been an added bonus to my blogging adventures. The cards are usually on display somewhere in my den. The door lets you know that you are indeed about to enter "Hen's Den"!

I hope you are all enjoying your own home sweet homes today...

  10. Beautiful, beautiful cushions! My mother has a strange aversion to anything with writing on - she always feels the words are an instruction and she wants to disobey (by putting salt in the jar labelled 'coffee' for example). I wonder where she'd put your lovely cushions? I would just keep them at home, being more conventional...

can i ask when you cut out the letters did you sew them straight on to the fabric or make them a bit thicker??.. ( does that sound right!)

  18. I love your Home cushions, fabulous! The deep red/ pink one is my fave, that bobble trim is great as well.

I hope you get a good price for them!

You'll have to let us know how the market goes, if you get your asking price, or if you reduce at the end of the day to get rid of stock. I did it once in Brighton, and it was a waste of time. Hardly anyone came to the market, so sold very little. I was a bit burned by the expereince. I think your market seems better advertised, in a good part of the country, so I suspect you will do very very well indeed! I love everything you are making for it. Plus with Kirstie's Homemade Home, it can only be a good thing!

  34. Hello Hen
Lovely cushions, I can see them going in a flash! I know what you mean about loving your home. I love my home but at the moment it is so messy because of work going on (slowly) that it does not feel cosy or like my dream home. Because every single room is being re-done it's a bit fustrating as I have few areas which are in order. I have to be patient! I certainly would not want any one around, boxes every where... We were going to do another boot fair this weekend to get rid of more excess stuff but it's raining!
    Have a lovely weekend
