The Wanderer Returns

Oooh, that naughty boy! Yes, I am thrilled to report that the ginger one is back in the HenHouse. We spent several hours once Mr HH got home from work, posting leaflets through doors, pestering people on the streets and putting notices on trees and lamp posts. We arrive back home at quarter to eight and the 'phone goes within 5 minutes. I'm going to cut the story short. Our next door neighbours are apparently away on holiday. There is a couple staying there meanwhile (the bloke just happens to paint our house so we know him and he us), and he rang us to say they heard miaowing when they woke up this morning and putting two and two together once they saw our leaflet when they arrived home this evening, could Jacky have somehow got in? Our neighbour's daughter-in-law has been going to the house all week, or more particularly to her sewing studio at the bottom of the garden (lots of sewing going on in these here parts!) and she leaves the french doors on the back of the main house open whilst she sews away in her sewing shed. JGT is seems, had decided to venture indoors for a nosey. Off went Mr HH, round to the neighbours in what we shall politely term his "loungewear" and back he comes with this sheepish face!

But poor Jacky-Ginge. He's been locked in there and unable to get home! He's had a nice tin of tuna tonight and spent the last few hours in his favourite place, on Mr HH's knee. Awwww.

Thanks so much to all of you for your well wishes. It really kept us going to hear all those stories of furry friends who had gone a-wandering but finally found their way home. My heart goes out to those of you who've been in similar circumstances and not had a happy ending. We do feel really lucky.

As a token of my appreciation for all your fantastic support, I'm going to send a little something to a few people whose names I have pulled out of the proverbial hat, being random.org. So to no 1 commenter, no 5 and no 37, (Attila, Curious Cat and Country Cottage Chic) I'd like to send you a little something to convey our thanks. I'll hunt you down via your blogs, but I'll do it tomorrow if you don't mind as all that emotional turmoil has somewhat taken its toll. A heartfelt thank you to everyone else for your kindness.

Guess what else we'll be doing tomorrow? The small matter of taking down many "missing cat" notices!

  8. Hi Hen

So pleased and relieved for you! I can imagine the feeling of joy had on seeing him again safe and well.

I was just about to go to bed when I thought: I'll have a quick look online just in case there is a post to say that Jacky-Ginge has returned and there it was.

He must be so happy to be back home with you all.
You can relax and have a good night sleep.

    Take care

  27. The first thing I did this morning when I turned on the computer was come here to see if he had returned. So pleased to see he has! Maybe it's something about Ginger Pussies. We had a ginger for 18 years when I was growing up and he was always going visiting/noseying in other houses, especially our neighbours. Luckily we usually knew thats where he was. We used to refer to it as his second home. Anyway, so glad Jacky Ginge is back safe and sound in the Henhouse home. Fiona

  40. I’m so happy for you and your family that your lovely ginger puss is safe and sound. It is such a terrible feeling when they go missing. It is not as if they can ask for help, except of course via the loud meow. Lucky Jacky-Ginge has one :)

  43. I am so pleased to hear that he is home!

I have two cats; one is a real homebird and if I don;t see her for a couple of hours I start to panic (her brother got hit by a car and killed).

My other cat spend the first 18 months of his life as a farm cat and although he is well house trained, cuddly and affectionate, he does wonder off occasionally for a couple of days; I do my best not to worry as it is just what he does! He turns up wondering what I'm fussing about! x

  44. I'm so happy for you!! I really am. I am really concerned when we move as it will be difficult to deal with a little baby and a cat in a strange place. Wish me luck.

  50. Had to check to see if your lovely cat had returned. So happy all is well and he is safely back with you after his 'adventure'.The exact same thing happened to my cat some years ago,he wandered in through the patio doors of the neighbours house and was 'shut in'for three days.I could hear this meowing but couldn't work out where it was coming from!I traced it to next door and looked through the letter box and there were these two big eyes looking back at me!

  55. I just now found you this very last five minutes, and I want to say of course I'm so very glad you found your sweet kitty. As I am a pet lover with one dear one on my lap as I type. And I immediately had to add you to my blogroll before I could even comment. Because, like me, you seem to love color and quilts! Kindred spirit, perhaps?

  58. Wow 61 comments so far! Just saw your headline 'Wanderer Returns' and immeditately clicked through to find out what had happened! Curiosity certainly got the better of the cat this time eh? Poor mite, he won't go venturing into places so readily next time. I bet he was rather hungry and frightened! Thank goodness it all ended happily and he came home to hugs and tuna! I am very relieved to hear that! And also - thanks for picking me out! Very intrigued and excited!!! :) xxx

  60. Hello Hen
I have been absent for so long and so am just catching the end of this story but thank goodness it has a happy ending. We had a very similar story with our Pickles a few years ago.. being a curious cat he ventured in to a neighbours house one day and was locked in for 4 days..whilst she was away. I was heart broken and put up posters everywhere, knocked on doors and generally fretted! One evening just as we were beginning to give up hope of ever seeing our beloved Pickles again.. I called outside to see if he would return.. Suddenely he came galloping through the door, like a small tabby miracle.. Mr Custard and I were both in tears and over the moon that he had returned safe and sound. It took months before we found out where he had been.
SO pleased your boy came home safely.
Thank you for your lovely Birthday wishes.

I loved all the vintage stuff you bought too. I have had some fun at the charity shops recently and have another forage planned this weekend.I put some of them on the blog but suspect you would like the two prints I bought, that i haven't photographed yet.
