Imposters

Hello dear readers, hello from rainy and gloomy central. What happened to those bright but cold days, please might they return? Everything is back to normal here at the Henhouse, men off to work, children off to school and me in my Den. I thought I'd get on with something new but it's proving surprisingly tricky.

Charlie Boy has cottoned on to the fact that the laptop produces a surprisingly large amount of heat and has therefore made it his best friend.

Things get really interesting when he lies on the keyboard and I have no idea what he does, but he manages to lean on something such that iTunes starts playing. I came in the other day and thought burglars were having a party. His song of choice seems to be Amy Winehouse's "Rehab" (each and every time!)

Vorey, meanwhile, is still shunning the alpaca fur cushion which he so loved only a week ago (fickle creatures? Cats?) It has been washed but no, my pile of new fabric is much cosier, it seems. Ok, I'll sew with something else then.

Jacky Ginger seems oblivious to the fact that he runs the risk of being rotary cut into cat steaks.

My sister was staying last week, (what a week: filled with quilty chat, quilty reading, quilty sewing and errm, quilty shopping - and eating cake- you see it's not all just quilty.) She had a new project on the go and was incorporating my vintage scraps into a doll quilt. At least she was trying to...

So I waved goodbye to my sister on Saturday and headed straight for my empty Den? No chance...

This basket of vintage lace scraps is just too cosy, says Ginge.

  1. I love cats, they are always in on the action. I usually have a 'Hattie' lump under the Durham quilt on our bed when I am trying to make it. Sounds like the perfect week to me, quilts and eating cake, can I come and stay next time???

  2. Ha ha ha! Cat do find the oddest of places to sleep - and on the oddest of things. Mr Memphis likes very much to sleep on CD cases. Or an empty crisp packet. And, of course, clean washing. Maybe I should tidy up more?

  3. Your cats are adorable. Do you think they make things when you are not there - or perhaps they party - whatever they seems to love to join in.

  4. On Saturday I had the house to myself, cleared the kitchen table, spread out my cutting board, material, pattern, cutters, threads ready for action...in the instant my back was turned switching on the iron ginger Andrew was on the table, which he knows full well is out of bounds, spread right across the cutting board, gently massaging the fabrics with his paws, eyes wide, fur puffed up and a 'you surely would not throw such a charming, beautiful and affectionate cat off your sewing, would you?"look on his face.
    Er...yes,actually, I would.

  5. Isn't it funny how they ALWAYS know which pile of fabric you are going to use, which paper you want to read etc.etc. Mind readers the lot of them!
They look very happy, contented cats.
Sounds like you had a lovely time with your sister, I'm taking mine out tomorrow - its her birthday.

  9. I love cats so much, I home teach our two children and the cats sit at the table with them normally on top of the page they are trying to read, then try biting the end of the pencil whilst it hurries across the page and then once bored of that..... knock things onto the floor . pencil sharpener, rubber, ruler

    Kids love it !

  10. Cats! My dogs are nearly as bad - animals are wonderful, they don't stand on ceremony and just want to get comfy!!

  11. Your cats are lovely! They are little rascals like mine though. Over the years I have purchased three or four cat beds - do they sleep in them - NO! I gave one to my mum and her dog loved it!
One of our cats likes to sleep in the laundry basket on top of coat hangers - work that one out!

  13. I love this post! Your big, orange kitty is like my two, and so sweet! I love seeing your cats in your sewing room, they are so beautiful amongst the lovely vintage fabric and fibers! My sewing room is also the guest room, so the queen sized bed has a large, soft, fluffy blanket just for my cats. Have a great week Hen! PS, what kind of twine is that in the photo with Vorey? Is that embroidery thread?

  19. Our cats look like they rule the house. They are everywhere :) Good at making themselves comfortable. I always look at our cat in her basket at the fire and say oh I'd love to be a cat in a good home, sit by the fire all day and sleep :)

  25. After seeing your cats, I want one again. Haven't had a cat for several years, but instead got two labs. I love the labs to pieces, but a cat would make the house seem even more cozy somehow.

  31. I so love reading your blog. So much so that I pass many of your comments on to my husband; the latest being about your cats. You have such a way with words. My husband is in animal husbandry. He mentioned, "Oh, the cats love her smell, anything Hen touches makes them feel ever so safe and comfortable." Do you find that to be true? Whatever, it seems your critters love you as much as those who read your blog.

  32. What a lovely post. Every quilter has at least one cat who insists on making a nest in the middle of it all! They seem to go together.
